Liposuction surgery works by sucking fat cells out of particular areas of the body. Its a common misconception that extremely obese people can or should get liposuction. Liposuction in fact works best for people who are only either slightly overweight or who have stubborn areas of fat they are unable to reduce through diet and exercise. Liposuction surgery can be performed under local sedation or under anesthesia for more extensive procedures. After local anesthetic is administered to the areas to be liposuctioned, the surgeon then infuses the areas further with tumescent solution comprised of saline and local anesthetic after which the fat cells are then sucked out.
Popular areas for liposuction
Liposuction surgery can be performed on virtually any area of the body where there is a significant amount of fat cells.
Abdomen – Liposuction
Have you lost count of the number of sets of sit ups you have been doing at the gym with hardly any change in the layers of fat in your abdomen? Has pregnancy left you with an unappealing abdominal shape? Most men and women across the globe are dissatisfied with one particular part of their body: the abdomen. Easy to put on weight but difficult to lose, thousands of people wake up every day wondering when they will win their battle against the abdominal bulge. Abdominal liposuction provides a way to lose that excess weight in your upper and lower abdomen and allows you to gain a more flattering and appealing body shape.
Both men and women have a tendency to put on weight on their abdomen. While the fat in the male abdomen is more fibrous it requires more effort to remove. In contrast abdominal liposuction for women is easier. Often women find the need for an abdominal liposuction after a pregnancy that has left their abdomen out of shape and flabby. Pregnancy stretches the abdominal muscles and leaves a slight bulge in the lower abdomen. This can be altered with abdominal liposuction as can the bulge left after a cesarean section. Liposuction can be done on men and women of all ages without any risk. In individuals who are quite old and the skin has lost its elasticity there may be some amount of wrinkling after the abdominal liposuction. It is important that you ask your surgeon regarding all aspects of this surgical technique.
There are two types of fat in the abdomen: superficial abdominal fat that lies between the skin and the muscles and deep abdominal fat in the abdominal cavity of the intestines. Of the two only superficial fat can be removed by liposuction of the abdomen while deep fat can be reduced by exercise and diet.
Abdominal liposuction is performed under anesthesia by a cosmetic or plastic surgeon. The amount of time required for the surgery would depend on the amount of fat that is to be removed and its nature. Liposuction of the abdomen under local anesthesia is done in Honolulu, Hawaii and the effect of the anesthesia remains for more than 12 hours after the surgery. Tiny incisions are made and cannulas are inserted into the region from where fat is to be removed. They displace the fat and it is vacuumed out. Abdominal liposuction done with microcannulas has many advantages such open drainage, less soreness and pain, no requirement for sutures, etc.
Flanks – Liposuction
Have you lost count of the number of sets of sit ups you have been doing at the gym with hardly any change in the layers of fat in your abdomen? Has pregnancy left you with an unappealing abdominal shape? Most men and women across the globe are dissatisfied with one particular part of their body: the abdomen. Easy to put on weight but difficult to lose, thousands of people wake up every day wondering when they will win their battle against the abdominal bulge. Abdominal liposuction provides a way to lose that excess weight in your upper and lower abdomen and allows you to gain a more flattering and appealing body shape.
Back – Liposuction
Sometimes in our attempts to lose weight it is frustrating when certain parts of the body just refuse to loose stubborn fat. Liposuction for the back takes care of one such area of the human body. The back is one of the important areas where liposuction may be performed to provide the most pleasing and satisfying results. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure wherein a tiny incision is made in the area from where fat is to be removed and a tiny cannula is inserted to break up the fat and shape the area in the required manner. Thereafter high-pressure vacuum is used to remove the fat.
Regions of the back for liposuction
To understand liposuction of various parts of the back it is first necessary to identify the specific regions where liposuction may be performed and also the characteristics of the fat in the area.
- Infra-scapular back or the area that lies just above the waist and below the shoulder blades is a common area for fat to accumulate, particularly in women. This is what causes the extra layer of fat to show when a fitting bra is worn. The fat in this region does not have deep pockets and is a single sub-cutaneous layer. It is fibrous in nature as the fatty tissue in this part of the body consists of fat cells and connective fibrous tissue. It is due to this fibrous nature that it is more difficult to work out the fat here. It is important to first use tiny cannulas and then perhaps a thicker one in order to perform a safe and satisfactory liposuction of back.
- Lumbro-Sacral Fat: The fat in the lower back is easier to remove and it is important to identify any defect in the spine before the liposuction of back is performed in this area.
- Buffalo hump: This refers to fatty deposits in the mid-upper back which results in what is popularly known as ‘love handles’. This is often seen with increasing obesity and is one of the parts of the body to show maximum results with liposuction.
- The posterior waist also has a tendency to accumulate large amounts of fat that can be easily removed with liposuction.
Patients who have undergone tremendous weight loss before resorting to liposuction of back must be warned that it is more difficult to perform than on people who are close to their maximum weight. It is important to keep the surgeon’s views in focus when deciding the amount of fat one wants removed. The back is particularly sensitive to hyper pigmentation after liposuction and making lesser number of incisions during the procedure can reduce this. Since there are no deep pockets of fat in the back it is important that you choose a skilled surgeon who will ensure that excessive amounts of fat are not removed from the area, which may result in injury to the skin.

Thighs – Liposuction
Thighs (saddle bags) seem to be one part of the body that puts on weight fast but is reluctant to let go of the fat. Do you find little result in the appearance of your thighs despite exercise and diet control? Are you avoiding wearing your favorite pair of jeans because of the layers of unwanted fat showing? Then consider thigh liposuction as an option to losing localized fat. Cosmetic surgery has made it possible for men and women to shape and sculpt their bodies in a desirable manner.
One of the main advantages of thigh liposuction is that not only does it shape your thighs proportionately and leaves you feeling attractive it also makes you feel fit and healthy and wanting to maintain that look. Thus most people after thigh liposuction are found to opt for a healthy regime of exercise and diet.
The thigh liposuction procedure
Once the surgeon has finalized the area from where fat is to be removed and the sight for the incisions, then anesthesia, local or general is provided. Incisions are made and cannulas inserted in the fat that lies between the skin and the muscle. The cannulas break through the fat and allow it to be vacuumed out. Thereafter the incisions may or may not be closed with sutures, depending on how big they are, as also the technique used in thigh liposuction. At the hands of a competent and experienced surgeon such as Dr. Michael Pasquale there is little risk associated with the thigh liposuction procedure.
The time for the thigh liposuction procedure would depend on the amount of fat removal, type of fat and the technique used. In men the procedure is slightly more complicated because the fat is more fibrous and thus takes longer to break up and remove.
Recovery from thigh liposuction
Depending on whether you have had general or local anesthesia for the surgery you may require pain medication for the discomfort after thigh liposuction. In case of local anesthesia the effect remains for over 12 hours and thus medication may not be required. Most surgeons prefer open drainage these days as it reduces the tendency for swelling and pain. Also the use of micro-cannulas does away with the need for stitches at the incisions. The patient can start moving a few hours after the surgery but should take it easy for a few days; it is crucial to adhere to the surgeons postoperative care instructions.
Legs – Liposuction
The legs are an important part of one’s physical appearance and most of us dream of having perfectly shaped and balanced looking legs. Sadly the legs are also one of the main areas in the human body where fat accumulates. This is more so the case with women than with men who tend to store fat in the upper part of their body. Genetic predisposition is a major factor in the manner in which the fat is distributed and accumulates in your body. Thus it is possible that despite a strict and healthy diet and regular exercise routine you are unable to get rid of the fat from your legs. Liposuction is a safe and good option for people who find fat accumulations in the legs to be especially stubborn.
What is liposuction of the legs?
Liposuction is a technique of cosmetic surgery wherein localized fat deposits are permanently removed to leave the legs looking shapely and balanced. Once the cosmetic or plastic surgeon has determined the amount of fat that needs to be removed and from the various portions of the legs, the liposuction of legs may be carried out under general or local anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the skin, usually in or near the crease of the buttocks and then inserts into the fatty area a tiny tube known as a cannula. The cannula is utilized to break up the fat deposits and sculpt the area in the required proportions. Thereafter the unwanted fat is removed by using a high-pressure vacuum. This procedure does not touch or affect the nerves, blood vessels, muscles or skin.
In the initial consultation the surgeon analyses how much fat needs to be removed and from which portions of the legs. The idea is to remove excess localized fat in order to provide a pleasing and balanced appearance to the legs. Thus there is no set amount of fat that should be removed and is decided from case to case.
Types of liposuction for legs
- Liposuction for the thighs: This is a relatively easier and safer process as the localized fat in this area is much more than for the lower parts of the legs.
- Ankle liposuction: The fat in this area is more difficult to get rid of through exercise and thus liposuction is a good option for people with fat ankles. However there are no deep pockets of fat in this area and the surgery needs to be handled properly to avoid any risk of vascular injury.
It is crucial that liposuction of the legs not be done excessively and aggressively and be handled in a balanced manner. At Dr. Pasquale’s Honolulu, Hawaii clinic that is precisely what is done. Furthermore the medical facilities in Hawaii are top grade and it provides a pleasing setting to recover from the surgery.
Arms – Liposuction
Many women and men shy away from wearing sleeveless clothing because of the fat on their arms. Arm liposuction offers an easy and effective method of fat removal that leaves you with a flattering shape and allows you to wear clothing you wish to without worry about the layers of fat showing at your arms. Arm liposuction is found to be one of the most popular areas and shows amazing results.
Procedure for arm liposuction
Arm liposuction is performed by a cosmetic or plastic surgeon. To remove the fat from the upper arms tiny incisions are made and cannulas inserted into the fat between the skin and the muscle. These are used to displace the fat and vacuum it out. The procedure doesn’t leave any signs of surgery and can also be combined with other procedures such as liposuction of fat pads at the armpits. Liposuction of arms can be done under general or local anesthesia. Use of microcannulas for the procedure allows it to be completed with minimal incisions that don’t even require stitching. This in turn allows lesser swelling and recovery is faster. Compression bandages may be used after the procedure. A day or two after the surgery the patient can go back to his or her normal routine but post operative advice must be adhered to.
It is a great idea to have arm liposuction done in Honolulu, Hawaii as you have access to the very best surgeons and medical care. Furthermore you can relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of this tropical island as you recover from the procedure and get ready to look attractive and slimmer.
Cost of arm liposuction in hawaii
As in all other parts of the country the cost of liposuction is determined by the state you are in and by the surgeon performing the surgery. It is important that you don’t let the cost of the surgery guide you in your selection of the surgeon. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that requires skill and experience and it is crucial that not too much fat or too little is removed from the region. On an average arm liposuction can cost between $2,00-$5,000.
Buttocks – Liposuction
The buttock is a part of the human body that seems to put on fat easily and is difficult to lose from. While in some cases despite losing weight from other parts of the body the buttock retains its fat, sometimes genetic predisposition for putting on weight on the buttock makes the body look awkward. Liposuction is ideal for both cases. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that allows removal of fat from the buttock and for it to be shaped as desired.
Facial – Liposuction
The face is the part of your body that receives the maximum attention. It is also one of the most sensitive areas of the human body. Losing weight from the face is a difficult task that is often not accomplished with exercise, and excessive diet control can reflect on its pallor. With time people tend to put on weight and fat on their faces. This makes the facial features look less attractive and also adds years to the person’s face. Facial liposuction allows you to remove excess fat from the face leaving it looking younger, healthier and more elegant.
Facial liposuction procedure
The procedure for facial liposuction is performed either using general or local anesthesia and Dr. Pasquale will make an a very small 2mm incision the neck or face, at a site that is not easily noticed. Thereafter a cannula is inserted first using tumescent fluid injection and then used to remove the fat between the skin and the muscle. The fat is then vacuumed out. With the use of micro-cannulas the procedure attains more precision and does not require sutures. Facial liposuction alleviates the puffed look that comes about with excess fat on the face. It may be combined with other procedures such as a facelift, nose surgery, eyelid surgery breast or tummy tuck..
It is found that after puberty the human body does not create many new fat cells and thus the fat that is increased in the body goes to those cells. Once fat is removed by facial liposuction then even if you put on weight later the fat is proportionately divided in the rest of the body. Facial liposuction has a high patient satisfaction rate.
Recovery from facial liposuction
The first few hours after the surgery may be slightly uncomfortable, depending on whether general or local anesthesia was used for the procedure. In case of local anesthesia the effect remains for about 4 hours after surgery. Your surgeon will prescribe medication to ease the discomfort. A fitting elastic dressing is to be worn and it is recommended that it be worn at night for a few weeks after facial liposuction. The patient can begin their normal routine in about 2 days time.
Facial liposuction requires the services of a plastic or cosmetic surgeon who is not just qualified but skilled and experienced. With Dr. Michael Pasquale of Honolulu, Hawaii you find the perfect combination that you would want in a surgeon who is performing facial liposuction on you. Dr. Pasquale is an accomplished plastic and cosmetic surgeon who has completed his residency in plastic surgery and also completed successfully a 2-year training certificate in cosmetic surgery.
Every client is required to have at least one consultation with Dr. Pasquale in order to make certain that they have a clear view of the facial liposuction procedure and the risks involved, and also to ensure that the clients have realistic expectations of the surgery.
There are many people who find that despite their best attempts they are unable to lose weight and fat from their faces. This extra fat makes them appear older than their age.
Liposuction is a wonderful technique of cosmetic surgery that makes it possible for people to effectively remove the excess fat from their body. The procedure can be used not just for areas such as the thighs and buttocks for fat removal but also from the face. Neck liposuction allows the removal of fat from the neck and takes away the puffy and unhealthy look from the face of the individual. Enjoy an elegant and slim neck that accentuates your facial features and allows you to wear all kinds of necklines.
Neck – liposuction
Neck liposuction is performed under anesthesia and involves making a tiny incision in an inconspicuous site on the skin, usually just below the chin or behind the ear lobes. Thereafter a cannula or a thin tube is inserted in the fat between the skin and the muscle and used to break up the fat that is then vacuumed out. The neck can be sculpted to provide a desired elegant shape. Since the nerves and muscles are very close to the fat the procedure requires the skill of a good cosmetic or plastic surgeon who has plenty of experience in neck liposuction.
The amount of time taken for the neck liposuction procedure varies from case to case, and depends on the amount of fat to be removed, type of fat and the technique being used for neck liposuction. After the surgery there may be some amount of discomfort and pain that can be eased with cold compression and medication recommended by the surgeon. The recovery process is fairly swift and the patient can return to his or her normal routine in a day or two. An elastic facial bandage is usually required to be worn after the surgery and may be worn at night several weeks after the surgery. It has been discovered that after puberty few new fat cells come up. Thus, when one puts on weight the existing fat cells expand. Even if you put on weight after neck liposuction it will be proportionately divided in the body.
Ideal candidate for neck liposuction
While neck liposuction can be done on people of all ages who are in good medical condition it is recommended that the person have skin that maintains its elasticity and assists in the recovery process.
Can Liposuction be done with other surgery?
Liposuction surgery can be combined with other surgeries and in some cases this combination is very effective. Liposuction is often combined with other surgeries such as breast augmentation or tummy tuck. Liposuction is also very popular to combine with fat transfer where the fat is injected into other areas of the body to increase volume, such as buttock enhancement, breast augmentation or fat transfer to face.
Persistent areas of fat
Do you have those persistent areas of fat deposits which don’t go away with exercise and diet? Then liposuction may be the right procedure for you. Our Infinity Life Center clinic under Dr. Pasquale will evaluate your needs and help you decide if you can benefit from this fat removing procedure. The results can be very impressive. Liposuction or liposculpture is performed in our clinic under local or general anesthesia for your complete comfort and safety. This procedure will remove the unwanted fatty areas permanently.
Liposuction final results
Most patients will see the final results of their liposuction surgery within 1-3 months depending on the type of liposuction used, the amount of fat removed, the area that was liposuctioned as well as the postoperative care. Some patients will see great results after 1 month. Postoperative swelling is the predominant hurdle most liposuction patients are waiting to overcome in order to see final results.
How much fat can be removed with liposuction?
Liposuction limits are determined by the amount of fluid loss. Most surgeons agree that 3 – 4 liters of fat / fluid removal is safe and effective. Anything beyond or approaching 4 liters is considered large volume and increases the risks of liposuction both medically and aesthetically. The removal of large amounts of fat (surprisingly to most patients) isn’t automatically considered better in terms of patient outcome. It can be difficult to remove large amounts of fat and retain the proper contours and ratios of the body, considering the height & weight of the patient. There are also health risks when removing large amounts of fat via liposuction.
Risks associated with removing large amounts of fat with liposuction
- Seroma or fluid build up.
- Haematoma
- Excessive swelling.
- Dimpling or uneven lumpiness.
- Asymmetric and unattractive body contours.
- Pulmonary Oedema.
- Hypothermia.
- Blood loss.
- Thromboembolism
- Fat emobolism
- Visceral perforation
Upper Chest Fat – Some women have fat moreso around the upper chest near the armpit and no where else but there. These pockets of fat can be removed with liposuction as can also be seen around the bra area.
Neck Liposuction – The neck is another common area that can be treated well with Liposuction, especially in younger people with good skin tone.
Saddle Bags or Outer Thighs – Outer thighs also known as “saddle bags” is seen often as are the inner thighs which rub together on some individuals.
Pubic mound Liposuction – Although not common the pubic area in some individuals is a lot fatter than other areas and looks like a bulge which can be reduced with lipo.
Buttocks – Buttocks can be shaped or reduced as can calves and back. Most common are Abdomen and Sides (love handles) all resulting in excellent outcome when performed at out Hawaii Clinic by Dr, Pasquale.
Who is a candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction can benefit many people and their are many indications. It is not for extreme obesity when individuals are more than 100lbs over their ideal body weight. It is not a good procedure for general weight loss which is better served with diet and exercise. Liposuction works best in individuals who are at or near their proper weight and have persistent pockets of fat. This can easily be taken care of with Liposuction at our Hawaii Clinic.
Liposuction Cost
Liposuction prices are wildly varied based on the amount of fat the patient desires to remove as well as the area to be liposuctioned. Most plastic surgeons and patients like to bundle multiple areas together into one surgery, such as – abdomen & flanks, or abdomen, flanks and thighs. This can help to reduce the price of the liposuction. You can find a more detailed explanation of liposuction cost and prices for each area on our liposuction cost page.
What is Liposuction surgery exactly?
Our Hawaii Honolulu clinic performs liposuction utilizing a special solution of anesthetic, saline and epinephrine called tumnescent. This is the most standard and proven technique available today. Simply the long history of its use makes it both a safe and effective technique for liposuction.
How is Liposuction surgery performed in our Clinic?
Anesthesia – In the operating room, depending on your preference under the guidance of Dr. Pasquale, you will be given either general anesthesia or receive sedation. There is your choice in most cases. However, depending on factors you discuss with Dr. Pasquale there may be reasons you choose one over the other.
Prepping & Draping – Once this is done the team will prep you (wash and sterilize the skin) with a sterilization solution, followed with sterile drapes applied before the procedure is started. This is carefully done to prevent any chance of infection. At this point the surgery is ready to begin.
Tumescent Solution – Painlessly the tumescent solution will be injected into the area of concern and this allowed time to take its effect.
Liposuction – A series of small cannulas (tubes) will be inserted right under the skin through a small pinhole sized incision at the area to be liposuctioned. The fat is essentially vacuumed out of the area at this point. The incision is very small and when it heals it should not be noticable. Depending on how much liposuction is done, and the area to be liposuctioned, the incision may be left open so that excess fluid can drain out. At other times, the incision is sutured shut. The patient is made aware of these incisions and they are instructed to lay down extra sheets the first night after the liposuction in anticipation of this fluid leakage. The fluid leakage is normal, and is predominantly tumescent fluid and not bleeding.
Removal of fat – These fat cells will be permanently removed using our liposuction technique. Gone forever are the annoying fat cells which don’t seem to be responsive to diet and exercise alone.
Body Scupting – Dr. Pasquale will carefully sculpt the area, using a series of small cannulas. As an artist he will check and recheck each area as the procedure progresses. The key to a great outcome is to use a series of small liposuction cannulas progressing from larger to smaller. This takes time and great care. Using larger cannulas can leave dents or irregularities. This occurs when an aggressive technique is used. Dr. Pasquale uses custom made high quality cannulas which mitigates these irregularities.
The best skill and instrumentation available are what produce the optimal result. Dr. Pasquale’s skill is a skill which no machine can replicate. Liposuction is not just sucking the fat out, but sculpting the human form.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction, or in medical terms called lipoplasty, is a mild surgical technique that is designed to remove fat from under the skin, from specific areas of the human body. It involves the use of a vacuum-suction canula (which looks like a hollow pen-like instrument) or using an ultrasonic probe that soften the fat in the specific areas and then suck it out of the body system. Liposuction is most commonly performed on areas of the body that naturally tend to store fat cells, that is, hips, thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. This procedure can also be used on the arms, cheeks, and neck.
The technique of Liposuction has been available for some time now, most specifically for over 18 years already, but the popularity of this procedure only began in recent years with new technology and improved surgical innovations. Among these, tumescent liposuction is one of the biggest reasons why more and more people are lining up to get this procedure done. Also, Dr. Pasquale’s ability to be more precise, in targeting the fat to remove, and greatly shorten recovery times, is also a major reason for the popularity of this procedure at his clinic, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The benefits of liposuction
You will be rid of those difficult to shed fat cells forever and they will not return. Many times these are areas which you cannot get rid of by normal diet and exercise. You can obtain the figure you desire and have been unable to obtain through other means. It is truly a proven safe and effective surgical procedure for the proper candidate for liposuction.
Tumescent Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction, or what is popularly known as the Tumescent Technique, mainly refers to the liposuction procedure that involves using large volumes of a dilute saline solution of lidocaine (a local anesthetic), in combination with the drug epinephrine, which is responsible in temporarily shrinking the blood capillaries. This solution is infiltrated or injected into the tissue where liposuction will be performed.
This Tumescent Technique is very popular because it minimizes the post-operative pain and bruising to a large extent. It was the tumescent technique which allowed for the surgery to be performed safely with very low risk, as well as it minimized post-operative recovery time substantially.
Tumescent liposuction technique has revolutionized the liposuction procedure making it safer and more comfortable. Older techniques such as what is known as “dry” technique commonly left patients very bruised and sore. This is not found with tumescent commonly. Our Honolulu Hawaii clinic uses tumescent technique on all of our liposuction procedures and have been for many years. Our staff is well trained in the care of liposuction patients and we will guide you each step of the way through your procedure. At your consultation all of these techniques will be described and you can be assured that you will be treated individually. All questions will be answered and full explanation will be given with regard to tumescent liposuction.
Types of Liposuction
There are several types of liposuction that have been developed over the years such as: laser liposuction, ultrasound assisted lipo, power assisted lipo, cool lipo and others. Many of these new technologies have helped to decrease pain and discomfort and recovery times. Your surgeon will be able to recommend which type of liposuction is most appropriate for your own particular surgery & needs.
Non surgical liposuction explained
With that said lets briefly go through what liposuction is and what it is not. As mentioned there is no such thing as “non surgical liposuction”. The reason for this is the definition of the procedure is to suck fat out of the body. To do so one must with a surgical instrument known as cannula enter the skin, which of course is surgery.
Non surgical liposuction
There are techniques which melt or dissolve some fat cells by injection, heat , ultrasound waves and cold. Yet all of these techniques are slower and not as effective as removing fat with traditional liposuction. Even the newer LASER assisted liposuction simply melts the fat to an oil which is sucked out by the cannula so its still surgery.
What liposuction is not
Liposuction is NOT a skin tightening procedure. Even the LASER assisted liposuction will NOT tighten a lot of loose skin. Liposuction is NOT a weight loss procedure.
What liposuction is
Liposuction is surgery. Liposuction removes fat cells by suction. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure meaning it shapes the contour. It is permanent and the cells do not return. Liposuction is a great procedure for individuals who aren’t in need of a full abdominoplasty or aren’t considered really obese or have significant amount of lose skin. These people usually have some localized pockets of fat that they just cannot seem to remove through normal dieting and exercise.
Common areas that we liposuction are: abdomen, flanks, medial lateral thighs, neck, back and buttocks. Dr. Pasquale is a board certified plastic and cosmetic surgeon and takes great pride in the satisfaction of all his patients. Many Doctors perform liposuction across the country, but not all are qualified plastic surgeons of the type or caliber of Dr. Pasquale. Dr. Pasquale has performed thousands of liposuction procedures and is always available to answer any questions you might have in regards to this procedure.

Liposuction for Men – Hawaii
While everyone likes to look attractive and fit, unfortunately…most people don’t. Whether it is because of busy work schedules, bad eating habits or a genetic predisposition people all over the world are fighting to look slimmer and healthier, but often it seems like a never ending struggle. Cosmetic surgery provides people a chance to appear the way they wish to by making modifications to their body in order to give it a shape that they find attractive.
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical technique that allows the removal of fat from localized regions. It also provides an incentive to the man to exercise regularly and control his diet to maintain that look.
Most popular areas for Liposuction for men
Liposuction for men can be used to remove fat from the flanks or ‘love handles’. This is one of the chief areas where men put on fat. Also they tend to put on more on the posterior flank and thus the surgeon needs to be skilled enough to decide how much has to be taken out from which part. The breasts are an area that may require not only removal of fat but also some amount of tissue in order to get the desired look. This can be achieved with liposuction. Some of the other areas for liposuction in men include the abdomen, thighs and face. Liposuction for men is a little more complicated in case of men than for women as the fat in men is more fibrous and thus tends to be more difficult to remove. The use of microcannulas for liposuction in men makes the surgery easier and more effective.
Procedure for liposuction in men
Liposuction is done under anesthesia, local or general; these days surgeons prefer to use local anesthesia. An incision is made and a cannula or microcannula inserted. It is used to break up the fat between the skin and muscle. Thereafter the fat is suctioned or vacuumed out. Open drainage technique is preferred as it reduces swelling, pain and encourages fast healing. Liposuction for men in Honolulu, Hawaii gives patients a chance to relax and recover from the surgery in the luxury and comfort of this tropical paradise.

What is the recovery like from Liposuction?
Our staff will guide you along your recovery processs, but to give you a general idea we will touch on some of the important issues.
How long is recovery from liposuction?
Recovery from Liposuction is not as long or uncomfortable as some plastic surgery procedures. The feeling after liposuction has been described by patients as having done too many sit ups or push ups. Like the soreness after over exercising. Most of our patients return to light work with in three days. By then most people are off any pain medications.
Special Garments after liposuction
Our Honolulu Liposuction clinic will provide you with a special garment to wear which will put light pressure on the liposuction area during recovery. This is usually very comfortable until the swelling has subsided. Swelling diminishes in two stages. Three days or so after liposuction the swelling typically is at its peak. It takes about three weeks for this stage of swelling to go down. The next stage is when small amount of swelling in present and this can take as long as 3 to 6 months to go down. The second stage the only person who will notice the swelling is you perhaps.
Significantly decreased swelling will surprise many people, as they will see perhaps another 20 – 30 % decrease in size of the area over a six month period. So as far as recovery is concerned one cannot fully judge the result until six months since surgery has passed. Interestingly, we recall one case where the patient was upset after a very area small abdominal area was liposuctioned. It appeared larger than before the surgery on the third day after surgery when swelling is at its peak. She thought we added something. After three weeks and reassurance form us, when the swelling went down she was quite happy. One must be patient for swelling in liposuction recovery.
What to expect the night after your procedure
One also must not be alarmed the night after surgery when a reddish watery fluid sometimes will leak from the small entry points of the procedure. This is some of the tumescent fluid which may leak out not being absorbed by the body fast enough. This is not bleeding to be concerned about. If you are concerned simply call our answering service whose number you will be given. We are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Ice packs help over your garment to lessen swelling and discomfort. It helps to prepare food ahead of time and have plenty of fluid available.
Long term recovery after Liposuction
We offer ultrasound treatments after your liposuction procedure which speeds the recovery process along. These sound waves penetrate the swollen tissue, smooth our the skin and reduce swelling. Most of our Hawaii Liposuction patients appreciate this modality.
At three months after surgery you will be amazed how natural your results look from liposuction done at our Hawaii Clinic. It is one plastic surgery procedure that most people see the results they desire.
Liposuction Complications
When one thinks of surgery, there is always an element of complication that could take place before, during or after the procedure. Liposuction, being a surgical procedure after all, has the same issues that a possible patient needs to think about, before taking the plunge.
At Dr. Pasquale’s clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii, you can be sure that you are in safe hands. Apart from world class liposuction equipment and very experienced practitioner, you also have scenic Hawaii to recover in style. But nevertheless, we need to discuss some of the complications that could occur during or after your surgery:
Pulmonary Fat Embolism during liposuction
We will mention the worst first, even though it is very rare. The process of Liposuction involves suction of fat cells from specific parts of the body after loosening the fatty areas. What we call Embolism may occur when fat is loosened and a fat particle enters the blood through blood vessels ruptured (torn) during liposuction. Consequently, some pieces of fat cells get trapped in the blood vessels, accumulate in the lungs, or worse, travel to the brain. The signs of pulmonary fat emboli (fat clots in the lungs), is usually shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing. If you are exhibiting these symptoms after your surgery, it is necessary to seek emergency medical help at once. Fat emboli may cause permanent disability or, in some extremely rare cases, be fatal.
Perforation of Viscous during liposuction
Liposuction also involves the insertion of an instrument called the canula to suck out the fat accumulations. During the procedure, the physician is unable to see where the canula is. It is possible to puncture or damage internal organs during liposuction. This problem is called Visceral Perforations or more specifically, puncture wounds in the organs. This may happen, for instance, if the intestines are punctured during abdominal liposuction. When organs are damaged, surgery may be required to repair them. Visceral perforations may also be fatal. But at Dr. Pasquale’s Hawaii clinic, his experience and popularity are indication as to quality.
Swelling or edema during liposuction
Swelling or edema is a very common problem that may occur after liposuction. In some cases, swelling may persist for weeks or months after liposuction. This is not uncommon and can be considered part of the healing process in liposuction.
Skin Irregularities
Although extremely rare with Dr. Pasquale’s technique of using small cannula in the old days this was more common with larger cannula which sometimes left dimples or ridges in the skin. Dr. Pasquale avoids this complication with small cannula which smooths out the are of liposuction. In our Hawaii clinic we also use post operative ultrasound therapy to make for a very smooth appearance.
These are just some of the risks that have to be given a thought to, while considering going through, with this surgery. While Dr. Pasquale’s clinic in Hawaii doesn’t have a significant record of these kinds of complications, it is always a good idea to have all the risk of liposuction in front of you, so that you make a decision knowing fully all the risks involved.
At your consultation at Dr. Pasquale’s Honolulu clinic you can be assured not only the benefits of liposuction will be discussed but also the rarely occurring risk. We want you to know all about liposuction before you decide.
Why choose Dr. Pasquale for Liposuction?
There are so many different types of doctors these days trying to supplement their income due to decreased insurance reimbursement in their specialty, so many try to perform cosmetic surgery. Liposuction is high on their list for many especially with all the new heavily marketed technology. The way they advertise you would think it is as easy as to go get a haircut or pedicure. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is indeed a surgical procedure and by definition there is no such thing as “non surgical liposuction”. So take with a grain of salt, all the slick advertising for newer so called non surgical technologies performed by non plastic surgeons.
Experience
Dr. Pasquale and his staff have completed 1000’s of liposuction procedures over the years ranging from small less than 25 cc to cases up to 5 liters of fat removed. This experience is not insignificant as learning to judge how much to take and where to take it is key to aesthetic result.. Technique is not something learned in a weekend course. It takes years of experience and having done many cases to develop such judgment.
Safety
Safety a spotless record of safety for liposuction over the course of 20 years. You safety is of the highest priority and we do not take our Liposuction Safety record for granted just because we have done so well. Every patient is treated as if it was our first.
Training
Well Trained- Dr. Pasquale learned Liposuction in 1987 when it first was being developed. He was trained in Liposuction in his Plastic Surgery residency, then on to further this training in a two year cosmetic surgery preceptorship in Manhattan New York. He has continued his postgraduate education at seminars and meetings since then. In fact Dr. Pasquale has been a teacher of the procedure of liposuction.
Board Certified
Board Certified- Dr. Pasquale is a board certified plastic surgeon , not board certified in some unrelated specialty that emphasis is not cosmetic surgery. Many physicians perform liposuction, but the most training is typically found in approved residency to become a plastic surgeon. Board Certification in Urology for example does not mean the doctor has training in Liposuction as its not part of that specialties curriculum , however in plastic surgery it is.
Physically fit
Although this may sound odd its not. Liposuction is a very demanding surgical procedure and takes quite a bit of energy. The surgeon must maintain a fitness level that is consistent with the demand of the case, Some surgeons refuse to do larger cases as it frankly wears them out. A surgeon must be able to have stamina for a physically challenging Liposuction case, this is no joke.
Good sense of humor
Even though this really has nothing to do with the quality of liposuction, at least you will enjoy being around Dr. Pasquale. You can follow more of his personal side on his blog at Plastic Surgeon Hawaii. Overall as far as experience, safety, training and consistently obtaining good results you will find no better Liposuction surgeon than Dr. Pasquale at our Honolulu Hawaii Liposuction clinic.
Liposuction Risk and Benefits
Liposuction is a surgical procedure despite the fancy marketing you will see on the internet which make it seem the same as going to a day spa. Like all surgical procedures there are risk involved which as an ethical practice we want you to be aware of risk and not treat simple as a casual beauty treatment, you need a qualified surgeon.
Extremely rare liposuction complications
There have been deaths from Liposuction and at least one right here from Hawaii in the last 20 years. In Hawaii the only deaths from the procedure were by non-plastic surgeons, but indeed there have been deaths from fully board certified plastic surgeons as well elsewhere. The risk of death is however very miniscule. You are more likely to have demise in a traffic accident or plane trip. When these deaths occurred it was widely broadcast in the media and much hype generated about this extremely rare event. So please put this in perspective.
A look at these type of bad outcomes from Liposuction generally show that the surgeon was either poorly trained and did not know better or was extremely careless. As example one cavalier surgeon in California was Liposuction extremely obese patients and taking an unheard of volume of fat upwards of 10 -15 liters of fat in one day. We think that was very crazy and is against surgical standards! Fortunately this doctor a gynecologist and not a plastic surgeon lost his license. That bad surgical judgment shows he was not even fit to practice in his own specialty and he was practicing cosmetic surgery.
Liposuction is a very safe surgery
However the number of procedures performed by non plastic surgeons such as general surgeons, dermatologist and others is significant and when added to the number of procedures performed by plastic surgeons around the world has been estimated as high as 2 million in one year. With these type of number including an estimated 500,000 liposuctions procedures performed in the United States, we know how safe this procedure is. It is indeed one of the most common and safe procedures world wide with a long history. That does not mean there are not some complications but these are so extremely rare and almost a freak occurrence.
In twenty years of practicing liposuction in our Hawaii Clinic we have seen what we consider the rare but more common complications. These are seen in all practices who have a significant number of cases. Even though we have seen these from our practice and from other plastic surgeons offices these are truly uncommon. The vast majority of Liposuction patients do not have a complication.
We will discuss these from the point of view from our twenty years experience.
Swelling
This is not a complication as as its part of the normal recovery process.
Bruising
We do consider this a borderline complication of liposuction. Being black and blue after a cannula has been suctioning fat is not considered a serious complication and will resolve on its own. However many of our patients do not even show any bruising after surgery due to the tumescent technique we use. if bruising were to occur it should resolve within two or three weeks.
Hemosiderin staining of skin
The blood cells have color due to iron content. One reason we do not wish to see bruising after liposuction is that we do not want this very rare complication. The red blood cells color can stain the skin in very rare cases which can take months or longer to resolve. This is simply a color change in the skin and causes no physical harm but cosmetic.
Lumpy or deep rippling of skin
This condition is caused by too aggressive liposuction. We have fixed this complication by transplanting fat back in the area. We also use the smallest cannulas (liposuction tubes) to prevent this complication. The best way is prevention is to have a experienced liposuction surgeon who good judgment developed over the years.
Leaving fat behind
This is not a bad complication as its the opposite of the rippling or lumpy areas seen when too much fat is taken. Its easy to correct with a second “touch up ” procedure and much easier correcting when too much fat in a given area is taken.
As mentioned Liposuction is a surgical procedure and there may be unknown issues and they are not all mentioned here. Yet when you choose a experienced well trained surgeon certified to perform plastic surgery procedures your risk will be lessoned.

Important points about Liposuction with Dr. Pasquale
Liposuction is a very safe process and most patients are satisfied with this procedure. And at Dr. Pasquale’s clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii, you can expect the best treatment as well as the best kind of recovery time in the scenic locales of Honolulu. But it is important to remember that Liposuction is not a needed medical procedure, but more of a cosmetic procedure. Consequently, what this means is that it’s not a necessity to complete this surgery at any given point of time. Liposuction is not like a heart surgery procedure, which has to be performed strictly at a practitioner’s advice. So, one can take time out to understand the pros and cons of this technique and find out the risks involved while understanding liposuction.
Dr. Michael Pasquale’s clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii is world class, and he is one of the well qualified practitioners for this technique. Apart from completing his residency in plastic surgery, he has also earned a 2-year training certificate from NYU Downtown, Manhattan. He aims to make every patient satisfied with the surgery and is renowned for being a surgeon who is popular due to word of mouth.
Liposuction may be performed in a doctor’s office, a surgical centre, or a hospital. Because liposuction is a surgical procedure, it is important that it be performed in a clean environment to omit any kind of risk or complications. Our Honolulu clinic does not perform surgery on what may be called “dirty” cases where infections (like at hospitals) may be found. We only perform cosmetic surgery in our clinic thus minimizing the risk for infection.
Emergencies may arise during any surgery and access to emergency medical equipment and/or a nearby hospital emergency room is important. These are things that you should ask your physician before the liposuction so that you can minimise recovery time and maximise chances of a good result. At our Hawaii clinic we have complete safety equipment as in any hospital and qualified staff to handle any emergency. Queens Hospital is located nearby.
One very important part to agreeing to this procedure is to understand the risks involved before having liposuction. It is important because, certain complications are unavoidable in a very small percentage of patients and rare. Liposuction is generally considered a safe procedure with minimal risk. As example if you are extremely overweight or obese and trying to lose weight, then this is certainly not the place for you. Liposuction is not a procedure for shaping the body to replace gastric bypass and is not recommended for weight loss. It is important to note that Liposuction should not be considered as a replacement for a healthy diet or regular exercise. A good diet is always the best option along with regular exercise. You could even try wearing figure hiding garments. Yet again liposuction is not for the extremely heavy individual and increases risk. We can help you make the determination if you are a good candidate for this liposuction procedure or not.
It is only when these methods don’t work that Liposuction should be taken as an option. Hence while considering this procedure, the risk factor comes into play. Dr. Pasquale’s clinic makes sure that all these risks are stripped down to bare minimum but, nevertheless, it is a point to be considered.
Our Honolulu clinic will provide you with a complete liposuction risk assessment to make sure you are a good candidate for the procedure. We do all we can to minimize the risk to you during your liposuction procedure.
Liposuction can be a great experience and solve body fat problems which can not be solved any other way. The benefits are obvious for liposuction but equally important like all treatments the benefits must be weighed against the risk for liposuction.
Our consultations take the time to individually evaluate your needs and to spend time discuss all the risk as well as the benefits for liposuction. We will describe in as much detail as you need and want before you decide if liposuction is right for you. Dr. Pasquale and his staff have not earned their good reputation by ignoring your concerns but by spending the time you need to make a well informed decision including your consideration of the risk of liposuction.

Liposuction History
Being fit and slim is a trend that will never go out of fashion. However for most of us healthy diets and exercise are unable to provide the body shape that we desire. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that allows individuals to permanently remove fat from localized regions and is an excellent option for people who want to look their best. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that is performed by a cosmetic or plastic surgeon, where a tiny cannula is inserted by making a small incision in the skin. The cannula is used to break up the fat pockets and shape the region as desired. Thereafter the fat is removed \with high-pressure vacuum.
Liposuction is performed in most parts of the country but it is essential that you consult with a surgeon who is not only qualified and competent but also skilled and talented. Dr. Michael Pasquale of Honolulu, Hawaii has done his residency in plastic surgery and also has to his credit a 2-year training certificate form NYU Downtown, Manhattan, where he worked with some of the world’s best plastic and cosmetic surgeons.
At his clinic at Honolulu, Hawaii, clients are informed of all aspects of the surgery including any risk of complications. He encourages patients to voice their thoughts and opinions about the surgery so as to ensure that they have a realistic view of it. Honolulu, Hawaii is a great place to have liposuction done not only because of the top grade surgical and medical care available here but because of the beautiful setting the location provides to recover from the surgery.
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery technique where excess fat from various regions of the body are removed by high-pressure suction. It is performed under anesthesia and before the surgery the surgeon flushes the affected area with local anesthetic solution. Liposuction was invented in 1974 by an Italian gynecologist in Rome, Dr. Giorgio Fischer. In 1978 French physicians Illouz and Fournier refined the technique of liposuction and by 1980 it had become a vastly popular procedure in America. However the excessive bleeding and rippling of the skin was a drawback that put off many people who otherwise would have liked to have the surgery done.
It was in 1985 that liposuction was revolutionized by Dr. Jeffrey A. Klein, a dermatologist from California, when he introduced the tumescent technique for liposuction.
This technique allowed the procedure to be performed under local anesthesia and with smaller and finer cannulas. This reduced the tendency for excessive bleeding during and after the procedure and also allowed the surgeon to sculpt the region in the desired manner. The development of tumescent liposuction did away with many misconceptions such as the use of local anesthesia for the procedure may make it less effective. In fact dilution allows more amounts of local anesthesia to be introduced and thus providing more coverage of the anesthesia. While the microcannulas used for tumescent liposuction removes lesser amount of fat per minute in comparison with the larger cannulas used earlier, it actually removes fat in a smoother manner and in more volumes. This technique tremendously reduced the complications that were encountered with the traditional liposuction technique and thus became a preferred procedure of plastic and cosmetic surgeons.

Liposuction results are long-lasting, especially if you maintain a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a balanced diet. While fat cells are permanently removed from the treated areas, it’s important to prevent significant weight gain to maintain your new shape.
Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the procedure and individual healing factors. Most patients can return to work and light activities within a few days to a week after liposuction, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks.
